Joe's Real Rolls is designed to recognize compatible standard physical polyhedral dice you already own. It does not imply that every possible die will work.

Ordinary dice, not proprietary electronics

The recognition system is camera-based, so supported dice do not need Bluetooth radios, batteries or charging. Acrylic, resin, metal and other designs may be usable when the camera can clearly see the face and markings.

What makes dice easier to recognize?

Clear contrast between numbers and the die body, readable markings, stable lighting and limited glare generally provide the easiest visual conditions. Current color-aware lighting guidance can better assess neutral and colored rolling surfaces instead of assuming that every good tray must be dark. Highly reflective, translucent, patterned or low-contrast dice can still be more challenging.

Factory Baseline first. Personal when you want it.

The ready-to-use Factory Baseline gives many compatible dice a day-one starting point. Dice vary enormously, so optional training tools let you replace that baseline with a personal model that learns the appearance of your own collection.

What if a roll is uncertain?

Recognition can be reviewed before a result is sent. Compact graphical dice cards and confidence colors make one or multiple dice easier to check, and the player can correct an individual die when necessary while preserving the physical roll itself.
