Section 01
Why real dice?
What is Joe's Real Rolls? +
Joe's Real Rolls is a Windows application that recognizes physical RPG dice through a camera and brings the results into Foundry Virtual Tabletop, Roll20, or Discord. You keep the sound, feel, suspense, and personality of rolling real dice while playing online.
Is this a working product? +
Yes. Joe's Real Rolls version 1.31.5 is available now and has been built and tested with real physical dice, Foundry Virtual Tabletop, Roll20, and Discord. It is a real product made for real game nights—not a concept or future promise.
What does the current release make better? +
Version 1.31.5 adds mixed-dice training for whole sets, more helpful review tools, and a smoother handoff between Joe's Real Rolls and the game requesting your roll. It is designed to keep setup clearer and the action moving.
Why choose physical dice instead of a digital roller? +
Digital rollers produce a number. Physical dice create a moment: the shake in your hand, the sound in the tray, the pause before the result, and the reaction when a natural 20 lands. Joe's Real Rolls keeps that ritual alive without giving up the convenience of online play.
Do I need Bluetooth or proprietary electronic dice? +
No. Joe's Real Rolls works through camera-based recognition, so compatible dice from your existing collection need no batteries, charging, radio, or specialized electronics.
Which dice are supported? +
The complete roleplaying set is supported: d4, d6, d8, d10, percentile d00, d12, and d20. One-die and multiple-dice rolls are recognized where the requested roll and integration support them.
Section 02
Your dice, your way
Can I really use Joe's Real Rolls on day one? +
Yes. The included Factory Baseline gives recognition a ready-to-use starting point across many dice styles. You can begin with it immediately, return to it whenever you want a dependable fresh start, or replace it with your own trained model when your personal model is ready. Backup and restore options help protect the recognition experience you build over time.
Can it learn the dice I already own? +
Yes. Optional personal training lets Joe's Real Rolls adapt to your dice, camera, tray, and lighting. That means lucky dice, collector sets, metal dice, gifts, and longtime favorites can remain part of your character's story.
Can I enjoy more than one dice collection? +
Yes. Named Dice Sets keep different collections organized, with one active set at a time. It is an easy way to give different characters, campaigns, or favorite sets their own recognition experience.
Does personal training take time? +
It can, and patience is part of the process. Early results do not define the final experience, especially with reflective, translucent, patterned, numbered, or unusually shaped dice. The Factory Baseline lets you start rolling while you gradually teach Joe's Real Rolls the special sets that matter most to you.
What about dark or visually challenging dice? +
The current release improves recognition support for dark dice and gives each Dice Set its own enhancement choices. Challenging dice may still benefit from patient personal training, but the experience is designed to grow with your collection rather than limit it to one perfect-looking set.
Can I train a complete mixed dice set?+
Yes. Mixed-dice training lets a newly purchased or favorite polyhedral set learn together through natural full-set rolls. Guided review helps you confirm what the camera saw while the application tracks the progress of each die type.
Section 03
Where your party plays
Which online platforms are supported? +
Joe's Real Rolls supports Foundry Virtual Tabletop, Roll20, and Discord. You can keep the same physical-dice ritual across richly automated VTT sessions, browser-based games, and Discord-centered campaigns.
Can I switch between Foundry VTT, Roll20, and Discord? +
Yes. Choose the experience that matches the game you are joining and switch when your party changes platforms. One tabletop integration is active at a time, keeping each game session focused and easy to follow.
What does Joe's Real Rolls add to Foundry VTT? +
Foundry players can answer supported in-game roll requests with physical dice and send the reviewed result back to the table. It combines Foundry's maps, automation, and module-rich worlds with the unmistakable drama of a real roll.
What does it add to Roll20? +
Roll20 players can bring physical results into remote sessions while continuing to use familiar sheets and game workflows. Your dice stay on your desk, but the moment is shared with everyone online.
How does the Discord experience work? +
A player can answer a supported Discord roll request with real dice and return the reviewed result—with an optional animated replay—to the originating conversation. Customers use the official Joe's Real Rolls Discord experience without needing to create or maintain their own bot.
How do verification replays make online play better? +
An optional replay lets the group see the physical roll behind the result. Where supported, it can finish with a closer look at the detected dice, adding transparency, personality, and a shareable game-night moment.
What happens when a camera reading is uncertain? +
You stay in control. Graphical dice cards make each recognized value easier to review, including larger multi-die rolls, and confidence colors draw attention where a closer look may help. You can compare the reading with the visible dice and correct a mistake before the result is shared.
Section 04
Confidence without complexity
What equipment do I need? +
A Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer, a compatible camera, a visible rolling area, steady lighting, and the physical dice you want to use are enough to create the experience. Built-in camera and lighting tools help you get the view ready. No special branded or expensive camera—and no electronic dice—are required. Joe's Real Rolls has been tested with several affordable webcams and USB document cameras, including options often available for under $30.
Is an NVIDIA GPU required? +
No. Joe's Real Rolls does not require an NVIDIA GPU. A supported NVIDIA GPU may make optional personal-model training faster, but the Factory Baseline and normal recognition experience are not reserved for gaming PCs.
Will it fit on a smaller or scaled Windows display? +
The current release improves the experience on lower-resolution and scaled Windows displays, with resizable and scrollable workflows that keep important controls within reach.
Are my personal dice images made public? +
No public community model collection is required for your personal training experience. Optional verification media is shared only through the supported online experience when you choose to use it. Review the current terms and privacy information for complete details.
What anonymous usage information is measured? +
For growth measurement, the site records bounded events such as page views, free-trial download clicks, checkout clicks, and tester form submissions. The aggregate growth report does not contain your tester-form answers, name or email, dice images, or gameplay content. Third-party services remain governed by their own privacy terms.
Can I protect the work I put into my dice? +
Yes. Named backups and restore tools help preserve trained models, while the Factory Baseline remains available as a dependable fresh starting point.
How will I know when a newer version is available? +
Joe's Real Rolls includes an in-app update check, making it easier to discover verified new releases and keep your game-night experience current.

Section 06
Meet Joe's Real Lore™
What is Joe's Real Lore™?+
Joe's Real Lore is a separate, free Windows companion for Foundry VTT. It turns synchronized campaign material into a searchable source for lore answers, character dialogue, and play-session recaps.
How does it make a Foundry session more fun?+
Players can recover a forgotten clue without stopping the story, find words that sound right for their character, and finish the night with a useful recap. It helps the group spend less time hunting through notes and more time playing.
Does Joe's Real Lore show its sources?+
Yes. Lore answers stay connected to the Foundry material behind them, making it easy to review the full source or return to the original entry.
Is Joe's Real Lore private?+
Campaign material and AI processing stay on the user's Windows PC. Optional outside-material searching uses the question being searched—not the synchronized campaign library.
Is Joe's Real Lore included with a subscription?+
Joe's Real Lore does not require a Joe's Real Rolls subscription. Version 0.1.15 is available now as a free Foundry VTT companion.
